Enhancing Your Mood
Depression & Low Mood
Our Approach
We specialise in the treatment of Depression in adults. Our approach to managing Depression begins with an initial assessment where we will understand the nature and severity of your Depression. We then develop a comprehensive and tailored treatment plan that best suits your needs and addresses symptoms of the Depression.
At Swift Psychology we use an integrative approach to treat Depression which often involve approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) and Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT).
Depression Symptoms
The symptoms of depression can be complex and vary widely between people. If you are experiencing Depression, you may feel:
- Continuous low mood or sadness
- Feeling hopeless and helpless
- Having low self-esteem
- Changes in appetite or weight (usually decreased, but sometimes increased)
- Disturbed sleep – for example, finding it difficult to fall asleep at night or waking up very early in the morning
- Avoiding contact with friends and taking part in fewer social activities
What does treatment involve?
The treatment for Depression typically includes developing a formulation (a concept for what is causing the low mood), from this we then look at supporting you in modifying negative thinking patterns and re-engaging in activities and tasks that you enjoy.
How effective is treatment?
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a safe and highly effective treatment for Depression. Research shows that CBT is the most effective form of treatment for those coping with depression and anxiety. CBT alone is up to 75% effective for overcoming depression after 5-15 sessions.
